Molybdenum foil and strip are high-performance molybdenum products with thicknesses of 0.015-0.09 mm and 0.09-0.5 mm, respectively. They possess high melting points (2620℃), excellent high-temperature strength, and electrical conductivity, and are widely used in electronic devices, aerospace, high-temperature furnace insulation, and new energy fields. Molybdenum-lanthanum alloys, with recrystallization temperatures as high as 1600℃, are key materials in high-end manufacturing.
Molybdenum Strip details
Grades and Standards
The main grades of Molybdenum Foil and Strip include Mo1, Mo2, MoLa (molybdenum-lanthanum alloy), and TZM, among which Mo1 and Mo2 are pure molybdenum grades with a molybdenum content ≥99.95%, while MoLa is a molybdenum alloy grade with added rare earth elements. The main standards followed are GB/T 3876-2007 and GB/T 3877-2006, corresponding to the American standard ASTM B386.
Specifications
Molybdenum Foil Specifications: Thickness 0.015-0.09mm, Width 30-100mm, Length >200mm
Molybdenum Strip Specifications: Thickness 0.09-0.5mm, Width 30-600mm, Length >30-2700mm
Molybdenum Plate Specifications: Thickness 0.5-30mm, Width 50-680mm, Length >50-2500mm
Performance Characteristics
Molybdenum foil and strip possess a high melting point (2620℃), high density (10.2g/cm³), excellent high-temperature resistance (can be used at 1700℃ under vacuum or inert gas), good electrical and thermal conductivity, and corrosion resistance. The recrystallization temperature of molybdenum-lanthanum alloy (MoLa) can reach 1400-1600℃, significantly higher than the 1000-1100℃ of pure molybdenum.
Production Process
Molybdenum foil and strip are produced using powder metallurgy. The main process includes: molybdenum billet preparation → inspection → hot rolling → leveling and annealing → alkaline washing → inspection → warm rolling → vacuum annealing → inspection → cold rolling → leveling → shearing → vacuum annealing → inspection → packaging. For wide molybdenum strip, a special riveting-rough rolling-welding-finish rolling-vacuum heat treatment process is used.
Application Areas
Molybdenum foil and strip are widely used in:
• Electronics Industry: Interconnects for electronic devices, composite grids, plasma coating sputtering targets
• Aerospace: Aircraft engine parts, rocket nozzles, nozzle throat liners
• Lighting Industry: Halogen lamp sealing strips, discharge lamp electrode materials
• High-Temperature Equipment: Vacuum furnace heating elements, heat shields, connectors
• New Energy: Solar panels, high-temperature structural components for lithium batteries
• Chemical Equipment: Corrosion-resistant containers, pipes, valves
